Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from the course?
You will learn from three master sculptors how to sculpt the female torso in the traditional Italian style. The mornings focus on studying anatomy and the the afternoons sculpting the female torso from a live model. Over 10 days you will complete a 22" torso in clay and an anatomical study piece.
What do the fees include?
The class fee includes tuition and sculpting materials, your hotel accomodation, breakfast, three group meals. Trip costs and entry fee to Carrara marble Quary.
What is the best airport to fly to ?
It really depends if you have other plans before or after the class to explore Italy. Some students have preferred to fly to Rome and then get a train to Florence/Pietrasanta. Pisa airport is the closest to the city of Pietrasanta where the Summer class will take place in the Tommasi Studio. From Pisa airport their is a shuttle to Pisa Central station ( 15 minute ride) and from Pisa Central you would catch a train to Pietrasanta (approximately a 30 minute train ride) If you plan to visit multiple locations to or from the Summer school it would be best to consult with your travel agent to get the optimum travel plan.
Do I need insurance?
It is highly recommended that you take out travel/medical insurance and add coverage incase you need to cancel at the last minute or if you have any travel delays. It would be best to check with your travel or booking agent to get the best coverage.
Time ? Will I have free time to explore?
The classes finish at 5:30pm each day. We have three evening group meals planned but the other evenings are open for you to explore the galleries, restaurants and sites of Pietrasanta and beyond. There is also one free day to explore and travel or rest. Often students decide to extend their vacation before or after the class and visit many other cities in Italy.
What is the accommodation like?
To keep the cost resonable the fees are based on shared room occupancy, though there are single room upgrade options available. For the duration of the class in Pietrasantsa we will stay at the Palagi Hotel located near the main Piazza.
Can I bring a friend?
How much cash should I bring?
Absolutely! We have a non-sculpting fee for anyone that you would like to join with you. They would participate in all of the activiites and dinners, except for the teaching sessions.
It is useful to have some Euros available to use whilst travelling, though it is possible to use your current interact card and credit card for most purchases. There are three bank atm's where you can also withdraw Euros as needed. Usually at cafes you would pay in cash but you could also use your interact if desired. A suggested amount could be between 300-500 euros as a back up, but really depends on your spending habits.
